The Great American Gun Show Road Trip: Weekends Built From the Calendar

A national gun-show calendar becomes much more interesting when you stop treating every dot as a separate trip.

Route 1: Central Texas double-header — October 17–18, 2026

Our calendar has the Buda Gun Show and New Braunfels Gun Show running the same weekend. Their stored coordinates are only about 31 straight-line miles apart. That makes this the cleanest two-show experiment in the current schedule: one hotel base, two promoters, two floors to compare.

• New Braunfels: Premier Gun Shows at New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center.
• Compare admission, parking, floor mix and the proposed Jerky Index on the same weekend.

Route 2: Pennsylvania triangle — October 31–November 1, 2026

Bloomsburg, Harrisburg and York all have verified shows beginning October 31. Based on our stored coordinates, Bloomsburg to Harrisburg is roughly 54 straight-line miles and Harrisburg to York about 30. Trying all three would be ambitious, but two can form a strong Saturday/Sunday itinerary.

Route 3: Build a winter collector loop

The 2027 calendar is dense enough in Texas, the Dakotas, Virginia and Pennsylvania that you can build recurring regional weekends instead of one-off drives. Dakota Territory Gun Collectors alone publishes a winter sequence through Bismarck, Yankton, Aberdeen, Pierre, Wahpeton, Brookings, Watertown and Rapid City.

Road-trip rules that keep it fun

• Recheck official dates before leaving; a route planned months ahead can go stale.
• Pick one must-see show and treat the second as a bonus.
• Add admission and parking before choosing the route.
• Check Sunday closing times; they are often shorter.
• Do not build the trip around finding one specific item.
• Use the weekend to compare promoters, venue types and collector cultures.

The real product is contrast

Two shows thirty miles apart can feel like different worlds. One can be modern retail and accessories; another can lean used, collector or club-heavy. That contrast is what turns a calendar into travel journalism.

Use the calendar like a route planner

Start with a weekend, not a destination. Filter all events beginning within that Friday-to-Sunday window, then cluster by geography. Look for pairs under roughly an hour apart or triangles where one city can serve as a hotel base. Only after that should you decide which show is the anchor.
